UK TV Today: Bill Bailey proves the rare celebrity travel guide worth following

Vietnam, the Brit Awards and Marian Keyes drama headline Saturday night television.

Saturday evening television offers an unusual mix of reflective travel, high gloss pop spectacle and emotional Irish drama. At its centre is a reminder that celebrity travelogues do not have to feel interchangeable.

Bill Bailey’s Vietnam, 7.15pm, Channel 4

Among a crowded field of familiar faces visiting far flung destinations, Bill Bailey brings something different. There is curiosity here, and patience. He begins in Hoi An, once a thriving international trading port, where he meets Chef Duc, who arrived in Britain as an asylum seeker during the war and is now known for his food.

Bailey’s humour remains intact, but it never overwhelms the setting. A meditation session drifts into a memory about a sandwich from 1982. Later, he commissions a jazzy suit from a local tailor in time for the lantern festival. The series feels observational rather than performative, interested in people as much as places.

The Brit Awards 2026, 8.15pm, ITV1

The annual pop ceremony returns with Wolf Alice, Harry Styles and Rosalía among the performers. Olivia Dean and Lola Young lead the nominations, while Pulp are in contention for group of the year. Jarvis Cocker’s presence inevitably recalls that 1996 moment when he interrupted Michael Jackson. Nostalgia hovers, but the focus remains on the current British music landscape.

The Walsh Sisters, 9.20pm, BBC One

Marian Keyes’s writing continues to translate effectively to screen. Anna and Aidan’s hospitalisation after a car accident forces Rachel to confront her own dependency issues. Cloisters rehab becomes the backdrop for uneasy self reflection. The drama’s strength lies in its balance of warmth and discomfort.

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, 6.45pm, BBC One

The series finale delivers its usual blend of celebrity jeopardy and theatrical surprises. Jade Thirlwall hands over her phone for the Send to All segment, while Jack Savoretti provides the live music.

Classic Hits in the Piano Room, 8.30pm, BBC Two

A compilation of stripped back performances from Radio 2’s Piano Room series. Coldplay, Macy Gray and 10cc revisit familiar tracks with orchestral arrangements.

Live sport

Premier League football begins early with Bournemouth v Sunderland at 11am on TNT Sports 1, followed by Leeds v Manchester City at 5pm on Sky Sports Main Event.

In rugby league, Warrington Wolves face Wakefield Trinity at 5.15pm on BBC Two, while Hull Kingston Rovers v Leeds Rhinos airs at 11.30pm on Sky Sports Main Event from Las Vegas.

6 Reasons Liberty Shield Best VPN

Watching from abroad

Programmes on BBC, ITV and Channel 4 are licensed for UK audiences. Viewers travelling overseas may find that access to services such as BBC iPlayer or ITVX is restricted by region. A UK based VPN can allow subscribers to connect through domestic servers and access services they already pay for while abroad.

LibertyShield provides UK server access and offers a 48 hour free trial for those who wish to test performance across devices before making a longer commitment.
